What is Kathanika?

Kathanika was conceived in 2012. Deeply rooted in the philosophy of the narrative tradition, Kathanika offers services such as Talks, Training Programs, Workshops and Storytelling sessions for people of all ages. Kathanika is also involved in research of stories and storytelling as a means of communication.

Human beings communicate through stories.

Stories create magic and a sense of wonder at the world.

Stories teach us about life, ourselves and about others.

Imprints of Maharashtra

Each place has a flavour and uniqueness about it. For the Paoolkhuna Festival, a set of stories and activities was curated to capture and showcase the myriad flavours that make Maharashtra unique.

Beedazzled

The life of bees has been an enigma; Beedazzled was put together to showcase the wonderful world of the honeybees. Each curated session is a combination of stories, information and activities. Through these interactive sessions we aspired to inform and enlighten our audiences.

Enchanted Garden

Enchanted Gardens is an attempt to look at the flora in our lanes, appreciate and pay homage to them. Through stories and activities we inform and invite audiences to acknowledge them.

Dr. Sherline Pimenta K.

The Master Storyteller at Kathanika, her passion is to explore how people make sense of the world around them. Her interests include narrative studies, experience design, communication design and visual language. Sherline received her Ph.D. in 2011 from IIT Bombay. Her doctoral thesis entitled ‘Moment and Moments: Discourse in Static Visual Narratives’ explores how stories (written or oral) are communicated through static images using the structuralist perspective. Sherline’s other interests include design thinking, mythology, culture studies, people behaviour (psychology, sociology, philosophy) and art history.

Krishna Kumar R.

An Experience Designer by profession, involved with the design of various enterprise applications. He is also a research scholar at IDC, IIT Bombay, India and is investigating Interactive Visual Narratives. Krishna’s interest includes narrative studies, product and communication design. Krishna Kumar received his Master’s in Design specializing in Product Design from IDC, IIT Bombay.
